Eicha – A Big Heart Looking for a Second Chance
Eicha arrived at the pound in March 2024 and was about 2 years old on arrival. She is a lovely American Staffordshire Terrier who was found, presumably abandoned, on the streets and brought to the pound.
Eicha is a wonderful girl with a big heart and so much love to give. She is strong, but her sweet and affectionate nature truly shines through. With people, Eicha is very loving and enjoys cuddles, playtime, and being close to her human companions. She is eager to bond and forms strong connections with those she trusts.
One of Eicha's greatest joys is getting out of the pound for a walk. Because she is a big, strong girl, she needs confident handlers, and unfortunately, due to the lack of volunteers, these outings happen far too rarely. When she does get the chance, she makes the most of every moment. She especially loves visiting the river, where she happily cools off with a dip in the water. Despite her size and strength, she also has a very gentle side and loves stopping along the way for a cuddle and some affection from her walking companion.
In the spring of 2026, Eicha was lucky enough to enjoy a very special day out with two volunteers. For the first time in more than two years, she left the area around the pound and visited the beach. It was a completely new world for her. During the drive, she sat excitedly watching the scenery pass by through the car windows. Once at the beach, she became calm and curious, taking in the salty sea air, sniffing flowers, rolling in the sand, and simply enjoying the experience. Although the waves were too rough for her to go swimming that day, she happily explored the shoreline and showed her love of the water.
What impressed the volunteers most was how relaxed she was. Rather than pulling ahead, as she sometimes does at the pound, she spent most of her time walking calmly beside them, regularly looking back to check in and seeking affection and reassurance. At one point, when one of the volunteers slipped slightly in the sand, Eicha immediately jumped back towards her, as if wanting to help. It was a touching glimpse of the caring and sensitive dog she truly is.
The volunteers returned with a tired, content Eicha sleeping peacefully in the car. Their overwhelming impression was that outside the stress and confinement of the pound, she was like a completely different dog.
Eicha was previously used to interacting with other dogs and enjoyed social contact. However, her long stay in the pound and the ongoing stress of living in a cage have affected her. Over time, she has found interactions with other dogs more challenging and now lives on her own to reduce stress. This change reflects the impact of prolonged confinement rather than Eicha's true potential in a home environment.
Because of her strength and energetic, spirited nature, Eicha would do best with an adopter who has experience with large, strong dogs. She needs clear guidance, consistency, and continued training to help her feel secure and thrive.
Eicha has so much potential and simply needs the right environment to flourish. With patience, understanding, and a committed family, she can become a loyal, loving, and joyful companion.
