Chencho arrived at the pound in July 2026 and was around 4 years old. This crossbreed was brought to the pound by the police. He arrived in a very poor condition, with extremely neglected fur that clearly shows he had not received the care he needed for some time. He also has a wound on his tail, possibly caused by self-mutilation.

After everything he has been through, Chencho is now safe and receiving the care and attention he deserves. He has clearly had a very difficult life and will need time, patience and understanding to learn to trust people and feel safe again.

Chencho needs an experienced home with someone who has the time and patience to work with him at his own pace. He should never be put under pressure or forced to do something he is uncomfortable with. Respecting his boundaries and building a relationship based on trust will be essential for him.

Unfortunately, life at the pound is particularly difficult for Chencho. Due to the lack of volunteers and the large number of dogs in our care, we are simply unable to provide him with all the mental and physical stimulation he needs. Like all our dogs, he spends more than 23½ hours a day alone in a small cage. This is extremely stressful for a dog who is already struggling to cope, and Chencho is currently showing significant signs of stress, including self-harming. We believe this behaviour is at least partly related to the enormous stress he is experiencing in this environment.

For this reason, Chencho needs to be the only dog in the home and would be best suited to an adult-only household with no children. He needs the time, space and understanding to gradually build confidence and trust. With the right environment and a patient approach, we hope Chencho can finally begin to feel safe and discover what it is like to be properly cared for.

After the neglect he appears to have experienced, Chencho deserves a responsible home where he will be treated with kindness and patience and never again be left without the care he needs.
