Cora arrived at Los Barrios pound in April 2025 and was about 2 years old on arrival. She is a gorgeous Crossbreed.

Cora arrived at Los Barrios pound in April 2025, she is a beautiful crossbreed with a heart full of love — though life hasn’t always been kind to her.

Cora was handed in by her owner due to personal circumstances — a heartbreaking decision for both of them. She came from a home where she lived with another small dog. Her previous owner describes her as friendly with most dogs, well-socialized, and a clever girl who even knows a few tricks. She has a playful nature and adores human attention, always seeking cuddles and affection. Once she feels comfortable, she can be a little boisterous when playing, though never with any intention of causing harm.
Cora is better suited to the company of larger dogs, as she knows she plays quite rough and wouldn’t want to accidentally hurt a smaller one. Cats, however, are not her friends — she really doesn’t like them.

Cora’s previous owner took her in when they moved into the property where Cora had already been living for her first couple of years, without ever leaving the grounds. Life on a rural property meant she wasn’t used to noisy environments like traffic or fireworks, which made her nervous at first. Over time, she has adapted, though loud or chaotic situations can still unsettle her. The same applies to car journeys — initially stressful for her, but with patience, she improved and now travels well, even on longer trips.

Her previous owner also tells us that, despite everything, Cora has remained a noble, affectionate dog with an enormous heart. She has never shown aggression over food or space — even letting other dogs take her bed or food at home without protest. She’s an easygoing eater who enjoys fruit, vegetables, and meat alike.

Cora was a mother when she arrived at the pound, bringing with her the weight of having just cared for nine puppies. When she came through the gates, she was already so thin, having given everything she had to her little ones, yet still quietly devoted. Her puppies were quickly placed into foster homes, safe from the harsh reality of the pound — a place no young life should have to endure. But Cora was left behind…

Since then, she has shown herself to be a truly gentle and sweet girl. It must be overwhelming for her to suddenly be in such a chaotic environment — loud barking dogs, unfamiliar people, and the heartbreaking absence of her puppies by her side. She now shares a cage with two other dogs, Raton and Louise, and they get along well. She has also spent time on the patio with other dogs without any issues.

But despite these moments, Cora spends more than 23 hours a day confined in a cage, often sitting quietly, gazing toward the gate with sad, longing eyes — hoping for someone to come and take her away from this place for good.

Despite everything, Cora remains calm and kind. Her soft eyes reflect both sorrow and hope — the hope that someone will see the goodness within her and offer the safety and love she so deeply deserves.

Cora is ready for a fresh start. With patience, understanding, and gentle care, she will surely blossom into the loving companion she was always meant to be.

Update October:
At the end of September, Cora was lucky to go into a foster home — and she’s doing wonderfully! Her foster family has another female dog, and the two have become great friends, spending lots of time playing together. Cora has also met several other dogs and has been friendly and sociable with all of them. She’s such a lovely, good girl!
