Elfa arrived at Los Barrios pound in May 2025 and was about 10.5 years old on arrival.

Elfa and Zarigueya – Two Dogs Looking for a Loving Home...
Elfa and Zarigueya are two small dogs who were found in a severely neglected state in a house in the La Bajadilla neighborhood of Algeciras. They had been abandoned by their previous owner, who had left for Madrid without providing for their basic needs.

When the police entered the house with permission from a relative, they found the dogs in an extremely unsanitary environment. The property was filled with garbage, had a strong foul odor, and lacked ventilation. Both dogs were severely emaciated, weak, and suffering from severe skin lesions consistent with mange, as well as a heavy flea infestation. There was no access to food or water.

One of the dogs lacked a microchip, while the other was registered to the suspected owner, who is now being sought by the police. After being rescued, the dogs were transferred to the pound, where they immediately began receiving urgent veterinary care.

Despite their harsh past, both Elfa and Zarigueya are showing remarkable resilience. They are now in the care at the pound, slowly regaining their health.
