Keny arrived at the pound in November 2025 and was about 11.5 years old on arrival. He is a handsome Pitbull Terrier.

Keny's story is heartbreaking and highlights how vulnerable dogs can become when life circumstances change.

Keny originally lived with a couple and another dog. Around 2020, the relationship ended. The woman left and took the dog that was registered in her name, while Keny remained with the man. At the time, she believed Keny would continue to be properly cared for and had no reason to think otherwise.

Sadly, that was not the case.

At some point after the separation, Keny ended up living alone on a rooftop terrace of a family home. Based on what we know, we fear he may have spent several years there, isolated from the world around him and with very little companionship.

Everything changed when a visitor staying nearby noticed Keny's situation. After seeing him repeatedly on the rooftop, she became concerned and documented what she was witnessing. The information was passed on to local animal welfare advocates, who reported the case to the Local Police. Following their intervention, Keny's owner officially signed him over, allowing him to finally leave the rooftop behind and begin a new chapter.

Today, both the woman who once shared her life with Keny and one of the people involved in helping him are among his sponsors. His former owner was devastated when she learned the conditions he had been living in and has continued to care deeply about his future.

After everything he has been through, Keny deserves what every dog deserves: a safe home, loving companionship, and the chance to spend his senior years surrounded by kindness and comfort.

Now at the pound, Keny found himself abandoned once again — this time as a senior dog.

Despite everything he had already endured, Keny continued to show what a resilient and loving dog he is. He quickly became a favourite among volunteers, who describe him as affectionate, gentle, and always happy to spend time with people.

In February 2026, Keny was temporarily evacuated from the pound due to severe rain and spent several days in a private residence. Away from the noise and stress of the pound environment, he settled in beautifully. He travelled calmly in the car, enjoyed spending more time outside a cage, and loved the extra human attention. During his stay, he proved himself to be a relaxed and easy-going companion who simply wanted to be near people.

Unfortunately, the arrangement was only temporary and, after a short stay, Keny had to return to the pound.

Back at the pound, Keny continued to enjoy every opportunity he had to get out and explore. He loves his walks and is a pleasure to walk on the lead. He enjoys taking in the world at his own pace and is generally unbothered by passing cars, people, or other dogs. Volunteers often describe him as calm, easy to handle, and grateful for every bit of attention he receives.

When given the opportunity to spend time outside with volunteers, Keny truly comes to life. He enjoys chasing a ball, receiving cuddles, and making the most of every moment of freedom and companionship.

In early May 2026, Keny suffered a stroke while at the pound. Thankfully, volunteers were present and were able to act quickly, ensuring he received immediate veterinary care. One volunteer took him home for the night so he could be closely monitored and kept comfortable following his treatment.

Unfortunately, an emergency overnight stay was the only option available, and the following day Keny moved to a paid residence where he could continue his recovery. We are incredibly happy to say that Keny has made a remarkable recovery and is now doing very well.

Today, Keny continues to live in the paid residence. While he is receiving excellent care and enjoys far more comfort than he did at the pound, it is still not a home. He is still living in a cage and waiting for someone to choose him.

Keny could potentially share a home with female dogs and with some male dogs following careful introductions. However, he cannot live with cats.

After everything Keny has survived — losing his family, years of isolation, abandonment, and even a stroke — we desperately want his story to have a happy ending.

At around 12 years of age, Keny is not asking for much. A soft bed. Daily walks. Kind hands. A family to love him.
